Insomnia driving WCB Claims

With its plagues, riots, and murder hornets, 2020 has ushered in a golden age of sleeplessness. Marathon worrying sessions coupled with mass disruption to daily routines—from exercise to eating habits—has wrought havoc on circadian rhythms the world over.

To the wakeful, insomnia can feel like the loneliest affliction in existence. But an estimated third of Canadian adults suffer from chronic insomnia. Recent data shows, in the past decade, a tenfold increase in the number of prescriptions written for sleeping pills. And sleep is now emerging as the latest casualty of the COVID-19 crisis. Too many sleepless nights are aggravating both physical and mental health problems, explaining why insomnia is now a leading driver of disability.
