Fleet Management vs Disability Management

The owner of a heavy-equipment service company reached out last week. In his quest for ways to cut costs instead of headcount, a Blue Collar post caught his eye. But this gentleman was bluntly skeptical that disability management could ever be transformed into a profit driver. I appreciated the directness, and then proceeded to ask whether he outsources fleet management. The answer was yes, a 3rd party manages his fleet of some 50 service vehicles. He then kindly shared rough numbers concerning the savings realized from managing their transportation costs. I replied that fleet management services are generally an excellent investment, and that a Blue Collar program for his staff of 97 people could easily double that return.

Disability management and fleet management aren’t so different—one controls disability costs, the other controls transportation costs. And both are effective modes of reducing costs and improving productivity without letting your people go.
